The Republican Party is doing lots of bad things, but at least it resists this sort of totalitarian-leftist nonsense, while the Democratic Party cannot be relied upon to do so. It is far from clear (at least, to me) which party is worse overall.
There's another aspect to this. I believe in reality, particularly the reality that cartels never last because the money to be made from desertion is too tempting.
No country with any kind of functioning democracy could ever convert to this scheme. Look at all the trouble the US, UK, and EU have had just trying to satisfy the Greens. 30 years of their prattling, and they've barely managed to scratch the surface, with coal mines being reopened because the windmills and solar panels aren't doing the trick. Germany, The Netherlands, France, the UK, Hungary, Poland, Italy -- the backlash is building and the powers-that-be are managing to hang on only by trying to ban the populist political parties, and by importing millions of immigrants who hate everything about their new country -- the food, culture, religion, clothing, everything.
And this scheme is far more radical than anything the Greens could have thought up. Even if Piketty et al could get the entire world to cooperate in this leveling scheme, it wouldn't last long.
